PettingZoo is the standard API for multi-agent reinforcement learning, providing AEC (Agent Environment Cycle) and Parallel step APIs plus dozens of reference environments across Atari (multiplayer), Classic (board/card games), MPE (multi-particle), SISL, and Butterfly families. Action and observation spaces are discrete or continuous per environment; it is a general multi-agent RL API not specific to LLMs. Maintained by the Farama Foundation and distributed via pip as pettingzoo.
